Asked in Goldfish Is a goldfish a mammal? Asked in Goldfish How many babies can fancy goldfish have at once? Asked in Goldfish How do you get female goldfish to have babies without a male goldfish around?Well, back to the topic.
I have a spawning pair of red and white goldfish in a 30 gallon tank, and about a week ago, they spawned before I went to school. I knew I would end up with no fertilised eggs and no fry, so I had to hand-breed them. I mixed the water, milt and eggs thoroughly and for a good 10 seconds after each squeeze.
Don't worry, before doing anything, the female released a good amount of eggs and I put the male first in the big white bowl. He also had so much milt, I could have thought that I was milking a tiny salmon, I'm serious! When I came back to school, I rinsed the eggs and added some fungus remover.
Jungle-marked fungus clear, it's a ink of yellow-ish powder. I fused it with some Ick Clear liquid treatment, two or three drops, just to be safe.
There was little infertile eggs, and most of the fry were still in their shell, from the starting to the finishing of all the hatching. However, my fry just started swimming freely and are thriving as we speak.
KOI AND GOLDFISH SPAWNING IN YOUR BACKYARD POND
All the tank and nursery parameters are good PH, ammonia, nitrite, etc. I don't understand that out of perfectly healthy-looking, fry-filled eggs, only 15 fry hatched. I am thinking that they could have been ''fungused'' or that I used too much treatment or that it's too strongor both. Any suggestions? The male has a lot of red on him, and the female is similar to a culled ''tancho'' goldfish. The male is about 7 inches, and the female must be about 7 and-a-half inches.
Maybe I just got an low-quality spawning pair? I'm confused by this. If you have a male fish and a female goldfish you do not have to hald-spawn them. Your fish look like commons. In general goldfish are quite easy to breed, it is only the super fancies that need extra help with breeding. I'm not sure how you accessed the milt? Sorry, but I'm confused. I don't know that brand of fungus powder. All the information that I've read up on this topic suggest that a little bit of methylene blue in the egg incubation tank plus aeration is the only really necessary steps to help those eggs to hatch.

Eggs that fungus-out as you mention get white and fuzzy.I have goldfish and Koi in my gal pond. This is the second year that I have had female goldfish that are full of eggs and not spawn in the spring or early summer. It is Sept now and on the west coast Puget Sound area. Last year I had a female goldfish that was full of eggs and she went all summer and through the winter before she couldn't swim anymore and was upside down, so I put her down since I tried milking her eggs and couldn't get any out.
This year the same thing is going on with another female. Full of eggs and didn't spawn. I have 8 goldfish and 3 of them are males. Any ideas would be helpful. Grant's Reply Hi Bruce My first question would be, are the scales distended on your female? If they are, the fish has dropsywhich causes the fish to swell up. If females are ready to breed but males aren't present or in breeding condition, the female will scatter her eggs anyway.
This is why I am doubtful that the female is full of eggs. Not being able to get eggs out of your other female confirms my suspicions. A ripe female will scatter eggs everywhere if she is caught in a net, and if you have 3 males that are old enough to spawn, a spawning will occur.
If your goldfish do spawn in your pond, I would assume the eggs and fry would be eaten by the parents or Koi, unless you intervene by providing spawning material that can be removed. A densely planted pond can afford the necessary shelter for eggs and fry, and many enthusiasts have some success with this method of breeding their goldfish, but it doesn't work for fancy varieties.

The pond is full of fast, aggressive and frantic activity. The fish are chasing each other around and around, jumping clear out of the water at times, and jamming themselves into skimmer boxes, there is frantic group activity along the shoreline rockwork and plantings.
We also have pretty consistent water quality conditions with nice clear water, and a clean pond surface just about all year. Then spawning season comes to town and we see that our water quality is different. It has gotten very murky, it seems to have a slick surface quality, and the surface of the pond is also very foamy and getting foamier. The skimmer box is packed with foam, and gives out a very fishy smell when you open it.
What the what!!! Its nature and the will to survive. Step away from the de-foaming agent you are about to dump in your pond! Put down the test kit. Try to let your pond go through the entire spawning without interference. Your water quality will rebound to normal daily conditions, of course assuming you have proper filtration.

These stars do look somewhat like the Ich parasite, however, you can tell the difference as the stars will be uniform and neat whereas the Ich parasite will be random and in various places.

Technically, your goldfish is not considered pregnant because she is laying eggs, not growing small fish in her belly. It will be used in this article as well. If you notice that your female goldfish is getting fatter in the middle, it is highly possible she is full of eggs. If your goldfish are healthy, and not overfed, then she is most likely pregnant. Sexing the fish can be helpful in determining if it is a pregnant female or not.
If it is a male, then it is definitely not pregnant and there is something wrong. Once you have determined she is with eggs, it is a good idea to put a spawn mop in the tank so the eggs will stick to it.

Although goldfish are generally very sweet-natured fish, they almost universally make terrible parents. Even if you have a cycled filter, nothing overwhelms a filter quicker and spikes nitrite levels faster than a spawning pair of goldfish! The reason for this is that the milt released by the male goldfish and any extra eggs laid by the female that you might not have noticed will very quickly make the water quite toxic as they break down in the water. Vacuuming up any eggs that fall into the gravel is a good idea to prevent the main tank water from fouling anyway, but if you want to save them and try to hatch them out, vacuum them into a bucket rather than down the drain.
If you carefully drain off the water and other waste, you can use a large syringe to suck them up without damaging them and then place them in your growout tank with the other eggs. If the parents spawned near the tank wall and there are eggs attached to the glass I told you they were sticky!
Now that you have the eggs safely squirreled away from the parents in a separate tank, the first thing you need to do is to drain the water in the egg tank to a level that only barely covers the ornaments. Babies need to have the shortest distance possible from where they hatch to the surface so that they can fill their swim bladders easily once they start swimming. If you want to carefully remove the cloudy ones and can do so safely, go ahead and do that.
